Alexa Vega: From Spy Kids to Machete Kills

Alexa Vega in Rick Schwartz Produced Machete KillsActress Alexa Vega created quite a stir when she tweeted this sexy photo of herself on the set of Rick Schwartz produced and Robert Rodriguez directed “Machete Kills.”  Playing the character Killjoy, Vega fit right in among the cast of gorgeous women and talented actresses, including Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Vanessa Hudgens, and even Lady Gaga.

You may remember Vega in her childhood as Carmen Cortez, one of the main protagonists of the “Spy Kid” movies. She reprised that role in all of the movies in that franchise including “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World” and even performed many of her own stunts.

Spy Kids was not her first film.  According to this Examiner article, “Vega has been acting in movies since 1996 when she played the younger version of Jo Harding, later played by Helen Hunt, in “Twister”, as well as appearing on television shows like “ER,” “Follow the Stars Home” and “The Bernie Mac Show”.

Zoe Saldana Joins Cast of Machete Kills

Danny Trejo, star of the Rick Schwartz produced Machete Kills, revealed that Zoe Saldana is joining the cast of the film in a recent interview with Moviehole, an online film blog:

“Trejo, noting that the film kicks off into about three weeks, says ‘The sequel to Machete, Machete Kills, is going to be a lot more over-the-top than Machete. We’ve got Sofia Vergara, who is a star in her own right, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, and Zoe Saldana – and guess what? I get to kiss all of ’em.’

Machete Kills is a Quick Draw production financed by Alexander Rodnyansky, as well as Aaron KaufmanIliana NikolicSergei Bespalov and Rick Schwartz.

The film is a sequel to the cult classic Machete.  Danny Trejo’s ‘Machete’ character originates from the 2001 Spy Kids film, written and directed by Robert Rodriguez. The film is an expansion of a fake trailer that was released together with Rodriguez’s and Quentin Tarantino‘s 2007 Grindhouse.
