Alexa Vega: From Spy Kids to Machete Kills

Alexa Vega in Rick Schwartz Produced Machete KillsActress Alexa Vega created quite a stir when she tweeted this sexy photo of herself on the set of Rick Schwartz produced and Robert Rodriguez directed “Machete Kills.”  Playing the character Killjoy, Vega fit right in among the cast of gorgeous women and talented actresses, including Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Vanessa Hudgens, and even Lady Gaga.

You may remember Vega in her childhood as Carmen Cortez, one of the main protagonists of the “Spy Kid” movies. She reprised that role in all of the movies in that franchise including “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World” and even performed many of her own stunts.

Spy Kids was not her first film.  According to this Examiner article, “Vega has been acting in movies since 1996 when she played the younger version of Jo Harding, later played by Helen Hunt, in “Twister”, as well as appearing on television shows like “ER,” “Follow the Stars Home” and “The Bernie Mac Show”.

Marko Zaror Joins Cast of Machete Kills

Marko Zaror joins Rick Schwartz produced Machete KillsInternational martial arts action star Marko Zaror joins the cast of Rick Schwartz produced and Robert Rodriguez directed Machete Kills, the sequel to Robert Rodriguez’s cult favorite Machete. Zaror joins Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara, Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, and many others in an all-star ensemble. Zaror, dubbed the Bruce Lee of Latin America, is cast very literally as Zaror, henchman to Mel Gibson’s villainous character.

Rodriguez explains, “I created this role specifically for him. He is an incredible martial artist with physics defying speed and agility, and he has a great movie star presence. I’m sure we’ll be working together again soon.”

Zaror was equally complementary. “To get a chance to work with Robert Rodriguez was a dream of mine since I saw El Mariachi. He has made some of the coolest characters ever. I am honored to have had the experience to work with him and his exceptional team.”

Amber Heard in NY Times Magazine

Amber Heard in Rick Schwartz Produced Machete KillsAmber Heard discusses her upcoming role in Rick Schwartz produced and Robert Rodriguez directed Machete Kills in the latest issue of The New York Times Magazine:

‘She’s a punch-throwing, gun-shooting, crown-wearing, sash-bearing, beauty-pageant Barbie with a twist,” says the actress Amber Heard of her role in “Machete Kills,” due out next year.

In addition to an interview, Heard stars in a glamorous photo shoot for the Woman’s Fall Fashion 2012 issue.

Sadler plays Sheriff Doakes, pitted up against Lady Gaga, Alexa Vega, Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan and Electra Avellan.

Lady Gaga To Make Movie Debut in Machete Kills

Lady Gaga will make her movie debut in Robert Rodriguez directed and Rick Schwartz produced pulp sequel “Machete Kills.” The “Born This Way” singer has been shooting a cameo for the film which already includes a wild ensemble cast of Sofia VergaraMel GibsonCharlie SheenJessica AlbaAmber HeardCuba Gooding Jr.Vanessa HudgensMichelle RodriguezDemián Bichir and lead actor Danny Trejo.

Gaga — who’s previously played herself on “The Simpsons” and popped up as Girl at Swimming Pool #2 in a 2001 episode of “The Sopranos” — is playing a character called La Chameléon, according to a poster tweeted by the director.

Mel Gibson talks Machete Kills

Mel Gibson in Rick Schwartz Produced Machete KillsRick Schwartz produced and Robert Rodriguez directed Machete Kills stars Mel Gibson as Luther Voz, an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space.  Machete (Danny Trejo) takes on Voz and his army in order to dismantle his master plan for global anarchy.  In a recent interview with Extra, Gibson revealed more about the character:

“He’s an evil genius, he’s kind of like a Bond villain in the gutter,” says Gibson.  “Bad guys are always more fun, and if you can find the bad in a good guy, it’s always more fun.”

The character is also a gourmet chef, and Mel said he’s a pretty good cook himself. “My speciality? I make the best hamburger in the United States.”

Rodriquez, known for his unique casting choices, specifically wrote the villain role for Gibson. “Mel was the only one I was interested in,” said the auteur.

Along with Gibson and Trejo, Machete Kills stars Charlie Sheen as the President of the United States and Sofia Vergara as a dominatrix. It hits theaters in 2013.

Deadline.com reports today that Charlie Sheen has been cast in Rick Schwartz produced and Robert Rodriguez directed Machete Kills playing the President of the United States:”Charlie Sheen announced today that he’s returning to the big screen. The Wall Street star has joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills as the President of the United States. While it’s not a big role in the sequel to 2010′s Machete, both Sheen and the director announced the casting on their respective Twitter pages. “I just cast Charlie Sheen in #machetekills as the President of the United States! Who better? More soon..” Rodriguez tweeted this afternoon and posted a photo of himself and Sheen. “My fellow Americans,” said Sheen in presidential mode as he retweeted Rodriguez’s post. Fellow Hollywood hellraiser Mel Gibson had also been cast in  Machete Kills. In the sequel, Machete, played again by Danny Trejo, is drafted by the U.S. government to track an arms dealer through Mexico before he launches a weapon from space.
