LaBeouf always stood out, writes Rick Schwartz, who worked with him on his first movie:
“Shia LaBeouf just dropped out of his theater debut, a play called Orphans that he was supposed to star in with Alec Baldwin. Various reports detail friction between the two stars, wall-breaking during rehearsals, and generally insane actor-type behavior. In true post-modern fashion, the young LaBeouf posted his side of the story on Twitter, copying multiple email exchanges and his own articulate apologies. To me, the whole episode was rather unsurprising in many ways; I had worked with LaBeouf on his first movie, and even back then, all of the writing was clearly on the wall.”
Actress Alexa Vega created quite a stir when she tweeted this sexy photo of herself on the set of Rick Schwartz produced and Robert Rodriguez directed “Machete Kills.” Playing the character Killjoy, Vega fit right in among the cast of gorgeous women and talented actresses, including Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Vanessa Hudgens, and even Lady Gaga.
You may remember Vega in her childhood as Carmen Cortez, one of the main protagonists of the “Spy Kid” movies. She reprised that role in all of the movies in that franchise including “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World” and even performed many of her own stunts.
Spy Kids was not her first film. According to this Examiner article, “Vega has been acting in movies since 1996 when she played the younger version of Jo Harding, later played by Helen Hunt, in “Twister”, as well as appearing on television shows like “ER,” “Follow the Stars Home” and “The Bernie Mac Show”.
International martial arts action star Marko Zaror joins the cast of Rick Schwartz produced and Robert Rodriguez directed Machete Kills, the sequel to Robert Rodriguez’s cult favorite Machete. Zaror joins Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara, Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, and many others in an all-star ensemble. Zaror, dubbed the Bruce Lee of Latin America, is cast very literally as Zaror, henchman to Mel Gibson’s villainous character.
Rodriguez explains, “I created this role specifically for him. He is an incredible martial artist with physics defying speed and agility, and he has a great movie star presence. I’m sure we’ll be working together again soon.”
Zaror was equally complementary. “To get a chance to work with Robert Rodriguez was a dream of mine since I saw El Mariachi. He has made some of the coolest characters ever. I am honored to have had the experience to work with him and his exceptional team.”
Along with the announcement also came a terrific new character poster, following earlier character posters of Lady Gaga and William Sadler featured here.
Could Rick Schwartz be the ‘Rick’ referenced by Martin Scorsese in Apple’s latest iPhone ad? (If you haven’t seen it, watch the video above). Schwartz and Scorsese have worked together on many films, including Gangs of New York, The Aviator, and The Departed. Schwartz also lives in New York.
In the ad, Scorsese rides through New York in the back of a taxi asking Siri a number of questions, including whether or not he has just seen his friend ‘Rick’. Siri uses the Find My Friends app to determine where Rick is really located, and Scorsese says, ‘Oh no, that’s not Rick.’
Rick Schwartz produced and Robert Rodriguez directed Machete Kills already has one amazing cast list. Now add Venessa Hudgens to the roster of talented and sexy women appearing in the film: Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Alexa Vega, Michaelle Rodriguez, and the Avellan twins.
Venessa will be playing the character Cereza. We’re not sure yet of the size of the role, but it has been speculated she may be part of Vergara’s character’s team of assassins. Hopefully we’ll soon see a character poster similar to the recent releases of Lady Gaga and William Sadler.
The list of men cast in the film isn’t too shabby either. In addition to Danny Trejo playing the iconic Machete, the film includes Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Damien Bachir, Edward James Olmos, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and William Sadler.
This weekend we revealed the character banner for Lady Gaga‘s film debut in Robert Rodriguez directed and Rick Schwartz produced Machete Kills. Today we’ll have a look at another stylish character banner for the film: William Sadler‘s.
Sadler plays Sheriff Doakes, pitted up against Lady Gaga, Alexa Vega, Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan and Electra Avellan.
